Mini History About Me #1

Since I change my blog direction from Personal Blog into General Fine Art Photography. Let me Re-Introduce myself again.

Kopivosian, Welcome and thank you for visiting my Blog.
My name is Flanegan B, A Born 86 Sabahan with a mixture blood of Pure Native Borneon and Pure East Asian Parent. To make it simple, I always call myself Murut, if someone ask me “你是什么人?”(What is your ethnic?). Grow up in a multi-races place especially in Kota Kinabalu. I speak English, Malay’s Sabah Dialect and Mandarin (3 Languages) as my daily life. Beside that, I’m able to converse well in Cantonese and also Japanese (本当だよ!).

I used to be a Good Student when I was in Primary and Secondary School but never had a good grade result beside Art and English Subject. I never love subject that got force to learn in the school. Anyhow, I manage to complete my 12-years studies. I chose Art directly but I wasted a few years to study Graphic Design until I realize what I wanted to do with my life.

Not very Fancy, but I know I’m gonna love it. It’s like a Journey with full of adventure and anxiety.

I took Bachelor of Art in Photography at RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia for 3 years. When I enter my first class, I thought I will be the best among other coursemate. However, I realize I have to relearn back what I got taught back at home. Somehow, I learn more about Photography and forget the camera what you have with you. With such a great lineup of Lecturer and Mentor, I appreciate more about the world of Art in Photography. During my Major year, Instead of majoring Still Life I chose Documentary/Photojournalism as my Major. I learn allot about how to be a Documentary Photographer and also how not to look like a Photographer at the same time. In my final year, I did a bold decision to do a Conceptual Documentary Work for my Final Year called “Anima” and “New Australia”  in Multimedia Format. During my Study in Photography, My “Silhouette Skater” got published in JpgMag Elegant Issue and also got exhibit in Switzerland. A Year Later, I got featured interview by Silverhand then year 2009, is one of my memorable year where my Anima work got features at Asian Photography Blog and also got chosen as one of the finalist for KL Photography Award.

2010, after graduation. It was a hard decision for me to left Melbourne, Australia and going back to my hometown Sabah, Malaysia for good to start something new and fresh in Sabah’s Photography. Somehow, it didn’t work out to educate the people here with their “It doesn’t matter” Attitude. I worked with Insight Sabah as a Photojournalist for a good short 4 months because I cannot focus more on my personal and big project work.

And here I am, what Im doing.. Just take photos, keep it for a while and then show it to the world. I can’t call myself as a full-time Photographer but I am very confident to say I create something with Photography. A story teller, An Abstract Artist, A Metaphor Photographer… Anything you can call but don’t call me Sifu, cos I ain’t Bruce Lee.

One Day I want to be like Maiyama Hidekazu, clean Portrait Photos. I don’t mind being his assistant if I got the chance to work with him. He is my Hero when it comes to Inspiration, his work has influence me allot.

But for now, I’m doing something to change the mindset of Young Sabahan how to appreciate art. Im slowly doing an Art Movement around KK with using my Photographs. Hanging my Photos around the City with no boundaries. Im creating hope for Sabah Art Scene, I Think it as a long-term period where people think Art is an Important platform to develop the State of Sabah especially in an Urban Area such as Kota Kinabalu in the future. If there’s no Art within City, there’s will be a meaningless city with hilly mountain green background with a beautiful foreground of sea but dull building.

That’s all about me and thanks again for reading. Have a great one ahead.
