My Journey / 僕の旅 (First Photozine Book)

By Flanegan

Since I got my first payroll last month. Well, I only received half of it actually & still waiting for another half-payment until now since last month. I hate working with people who pays half only and then no update or news from them. This is not my first time, 3rd time I think. I still remember my first pay assignment job, I only receive quarter of the payment amount until now.

Money is Evil Indeed… Why can’t we live freely like how our ancestor used to be? Just laid back and tanam sawah padi? damn~~

Anyway, this Blog post is about my first Independent Photozine or Photography Book that I used my own earn hardcash money to print it.
Basically, the amount of this book cost 60% of my half paid roll. Which means, I’m broke already now. HAHA
But hey, I’m happy with it. I decide to send this book to some of the Art Gallery I’m eyeing with my cover letter and resume. I know I already got a job, I’m gonna talk about it soon here for you guys to imagine in a few days.

Okay, Let’s talk about my Photozine. It’s my first collection of Photozine. Independent Photography book printed in Sabah.
Not in a proper ‘photo’ printing way but it’s enough to show my photo in a traditional way instead of looking your image in a pixelated LCD Monitor screen. =_=”

Lemme Present you :

My Journey / 僕の旅

I decide to call it My Journey or 僕の旅 in Japanese (boku no tabi) because It’s not a conceptual or series of image.
Most of the photo in this book is part of My Journey where I started to further my study Photography in Australia in 2007 until now 2010 where I manage to find a full-time Job as a Photojournalist.
It’s just a first episode of my photozine, and in the future I’m gonna compile and check my archive again to do 2nd episode, maybe I’ll use the title back to My Journey or maybe not. will see~~

15 copies only. Limited bebeh!

Total is 40 pages on Art Paper with Laser Jet Printer.

I’m gonna send it to some of Art Gallery first, If I do have another extra book.
If for those who are interested to purchase it please do not hesitate to leave a comment or can email me via sendto[at]flaneganb.net . If you do have my mobile phone no, just leave me a txt message lar.

I guess that’s all and oh ya. I got freebies from Kazakhstan girls during Folklore Festival Farewell party at Zoo Lokkawi yesterday for an assignment.

Kazakhstan Flag.

I’ve been searching for their flag for quite sometimes and finally I got myself 1 by them! Blue color I like~~
And Kazakh Girls are very cute and pretty too. I can fall for them anytime. Suka brabis their features, really represent 1 world. HAHA

Group Photos of the Kazakh Girls.

Haiya, too bad the Super Cute Girl is not in there. I do hope they come again next year.
Macam mau lose weight and learn a few Kazakh Language Phrases Pula so that Next Time I can communicate with them more easily.
Most of them can’t speak English, Even they do have a translator… Seems like the Translator herself also Lost in Translation.
I still remember I ask one of them “How long will you be here after the competition?”, The girl reply “I love Malaysian Food!”

ermmmm….. I don’t know how to reply after that. The atmosphere do change a lil bit if u know what I mean.
Even myself kena Lost in Translation. Rakhmet for the Kazakhstan Flag.

That’s all from me.

I don’t have time to poo-poo because of my job.

By Flanegan

Just got back from Kota Kinabalu International Folklore Fest. I guess maybe because of the less promotion, not much people attend the event + the location is not a prime place for those who don’t have transport because radius distant from the nearest bus station to the event area is very far.

Since I started working with this company, I still don’t get why I have to be in the Office all the time? Can the boss just contact me if I got a conference or job to cover? hmmmm
I only upload 3 images here because I don’t have time to enjoy blogging and surf the net often anymore because I need to spend more time on the bed.

Cos I need to wake up at freakin 630am. Work starts at 8am, for a photojournalist sitting down on the desk waiting for the chief editor and say “Good Morning”.
Tough job huh~~

For Kota Kinabalu International Folklore fest this year, they giving out lotsa award but I will only mention 2 here.
For the best Costume award goes to :

Kazakhstan

I heard they Won Best Costume for 7 years in a row since the 1st installment of KKIF in 2003.
I wonder who can beat them next year?

And the Winners for KKIF 2010 is :

Taiwan

It’s their first time joining KKIF and also their first time visit Sabah. One of the dancer also awarded Best Female Dancer for KKIF2010.
MHO, They deserved it. The Dancer Sync so perfect and also their choreograph is so beautiful, is like watching a Chinese Opera theatre but in a contemporary folk dance way.

Last photos but not least :

Photographer needs a Photo of themself too aye~~ The Thai and Philippines. ASEAN represent yo.

that’s all lar. It’s 1.30am already, I need proper sleep so I don’t get cranky in office.

仕事があるや!

By Flanegan

If you understand my title.. Yes, I am! But How? Why Suddenly? Out of the blue?

Good Morning Kota Kinabalu

3 Days ago…. around 2.30am, I send my resume along with cover letter + pdf portfolio to this company via email. You know, just try luck again~
Cos it’s like my ritual already send my resume etc. randomly in the middle of the night and hope for reply from the Boss or Chief Editor itself.

Like usual, around 4am+ I went to sleep…
My phone suddenly ringing around 9.30am in the morning. And so I answered the call… For the first time around that time, usually I ignored or ‘tidur mati’ no matter how many times the phone vibrate like heck!

I got an interview on that same date to where I send an email to that company 7 hours ago. Then I went, 1 hour later after the interview.
I got accepted and employed straight away to become part of the team.
7 Months later, after graduation… I got a job, a job that related with my most expensive certificate my family has ever invest.

“Photojournalist”

Cool huh!!
So far work is good, but Im not get used to it sitting down doing nothing while waiting assignment in the office from 8am till 4.30pm.

If you are wandering who am I working with… Just click this link then you’ll know where I work.
:P

It’s my 2nd day today. If you’re interested how does a “Sabah Photojournalist” work feels like. Gimme 2 weeks then I’ll post about it how’s it goes.

Workspace.. or a Photodesk.

That’s all from me lar.. It’s 12.50am now and I shall of to the dreamland.
No more waking up late anymore… :(

Met a Rubber Tapper in my dream.

By Flanegan

Last nite, I had a dream. Met this guy in an unnamed city. Somewhere not so familiar, but I see a few of Sabah’s Native wandering around the city working as posmen, delivery driver, florist and a few of em wearing businessmen suits together with the East Asians where they are the major people in this city along with the white, african and latin people.

I was sitting in a cafe. Very nice atmosphere independent cafe playing Bossa Band music and the guy beside me apparently speak very thick Sabah BM on the phone with someone.
Since I’m confuse and mind went blank because I don’t know where the heck am I. After he hang up his mobile, I greet him and ask him “Kenapa ini bandar banyak orang kita ni?”. I think he shock with my answer, and he say “Orang kita terpaksa lari, kalo inda sengsara sebab kita kena paksa.” I have no idea what he saying, since both of us feel comfortable and able to converse in Sabah BM. I change my topic, I ask him what is he doing here and Where he lives? He says he work as a Rubber Tapper, lives in a new settlement town called “Jesselton” North West side of the city. I still remember he says That area used to be an empty land until some of us move here or got send here to settle a new life.

Once I heard what He said… I myself had a shock and I woke up from my dream eventually because I’m out of breath. =_=”

Usually I always dream about a scene as the eye of the story. But rarely become part of the dream. I can’t be bother everytime what kind of dream I have until I had this kind of dream yesterday.
Till now, 16 hours later I’m still curious about my dream. What’s the meaning? The Metaphor? I know it’s impossible for me to continue it again if I kept thinking about it.

Haishh…. potong stim saja because sesak nafas.

Anyway, I’ve translated Sayang Kinabalu Lyrics into Japanese Language for Japanese language Festival this October at UMS.
I’ll be part of the singing team if I’m not mistaken lah… Since I always naturally translate some non-Japanese Song into Japanese Language when I know the lyrics.
I decide to write the lyrics down on the paper and record then post it on the net. Just incase, maybe some of you guys or Japanese Audience would like to know the meaning of “Sayang Kinabalu” in Japanese way.
わかりますか? わかります Bah Kan? Say Ya jak.. HAHA

Anyway here’s the embed video of my Cover Version of “Sayang Kinabalu” in Japanese Language 日本語. “好きキナバル”

好きキナバル日本語バーション

この歌はいいですか? Ok ka? ekekeke
Maybe Next time I’ll do a perfect and better one. This one seems so rush, once i finish jot down the lyrics I straight away strum the guitar and record it.

I also got Sad news from the Idol world :

Ono Erena graduating AKB48.

One of my fav in group. I started to watch AKBingo and Shukan AKB because of her Violent/Yankee Attitude. She’s like in between Fujimoto Miki and Konno Asami of Morning Musume, I guess that’s what makes her interesting to me. She’ll be focus more on Acting career in the future and her plan now is to pursue her Study in Acting in Overseas according from AKB48 sources.

Bah… Good Luck Ono Erena. Everyone who watch AKBingo or Shukan AKB or even listening to AKB48 song will be support you silently. がんばって下さい!

I guess that’s all from me. I’m so nervous hows the outcome of my bulky print photobook!
And oh ya, I often update some random stuff at my tumblr side. Hop on to http://yabuki.flaneganb.net. Bookmark it ya!

When Photograph connects via veins from palm

By Flanegan

Yo, What’s Up みんあさん!

Before I want update something.. Let’s listen to this cute song first :D

No Sleeves – Relax.

2 Days ago went to Orange Channel to do test printing my Photozine. And the result is… not-so-ok.  Maybe because there’s no variety choice of Paper that specialize in Photobook. But that kinda reason won’t let me stop printing in bulk. I send my photozine to another printing company via a friend of mine with proper draft. Can’t wait to receive the book next week! Hopefully it’s good! Cos i’m gonna send it to some potential art galleries and also ‘client’.

First Design for Front Cover.

Result from Test Print.

If you realize the B/W cover photo got a lil bit greenish on the mid-tone and also highlights. It’s hard to avoid the greenish or some personal printer magentaish color. The only way to get perfect B&W like the real Photobook behind my Photozine is to print your photos with a photo printer that specialize in Black and White or create BW profile on it.

Even the color got a lil bit over saturated :

A lil bit Oversaturated

Since I don’t have my own color printing profile and most printing company in KK using CMYK instead of ARGB. It takes about an hour or 2 for me to D.I.Y my own profile to get at least 90% accurate.

Anyway, I opened a tumblr account. Gonna share something related with Music, Cinematography, Photography and art related stuff there. Instead of using ‘flanegan’, I decide to use my alter ego name for my tumblr site., ‘Yabuki Taro’. :)

Simple and Addictive.

I like how they design the dashboard. Very systematic and fun. You don’t need to do much stuff on it and 1 good think about tumblr is you can use your own domain or sub-domain as your domain name.
Instead of using yabukitaro.tumblr.com. I just add the IP Address to my Website Server Setup and  kaotim!

My tumblr link is yabuki.flaneganb.net.
If you have one, please follow me and also please do visit. Won’t regret 100% guarantee satisfaction! haha

Bah.. That’s all from me.
